Atlanta Girls' School: A Space to Grow and Lead

As the only non-sectarian girls’ school in Atlanta, Atlanta Girls’ School provides something special. It’s one of the few single-sex environments that doesn’t exist to discourage girls from doing something, but rather to encourage them.

It’s a space where girls are not forced to define themselves with respect to male counterparts, or the various attitudes and social behaviors ingrained in many co-ed environments. They are encouraged—and in fact, required—to assume roles of leadership.

Raveena Alli, 16, has been blind since birth. That hasn’t stopped her from co-leading the school’s Community Service Club and volunteering with a number of organizations inside the community.

“For me, giving back … allows me to connect with new people and learn new insights into what our community needs and how I can do my part to support and be a part of the solution,” she says.

Recently, Rough Draft Atlanta recognized Raveena on their list, “20 Under 20: Honoring students who give back to the community."
