Branding is Essential for Growth

A strong brand acts as a center of gravity, creating alignment, cohesion, and clarity so your organization can grow with authenticity and take advantage of new opportunities.

No matter what your goals are, our expert strategists, designers, and copywriters will work with you to develop a brand identity that facilitates growth now and well into the future.

Our Process

  • We begin each project by conducting a meeting with stakeholders to discuss your brand’s goals, background, challenges, personality, etc. We like to think of this first meeting as “brand therapy.” From there, we’ll conduct a detailed analysis of other brands in your space—your organization’s “competitors”—to inform our strategy.

  • We will develop and present a comprehensive brand strategy that includes competitive insights, brand attributes, as well as detailed recommendations regarding the brand’s positioning, attributes, and personality as well as recommendations for how your organization’s mission and vision might better reflect these important qualities.

  • Based on our initial discussion and the approved strategy, we will develop multiple logo concepts for you to review. We will then refine the chosen concept based on any feedback you provide.

  • Using the approved logo as a foundation, we will develop and present multiple directions for a comprehensive identity system that includes color palettes, typography, iconography, patterns, and other appropriate visual assets. Based on your feedback, we will refine these into a single, comprehensive identity system.

  • The engagement will culminate with the delivery of a detailed Brand Style Guide outlining the various brand assets and providing guidelines for usage. We will also deliver a comprehensive Logo Kit with various versions and formats of the approved logo as well as design files.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • At its core, brand development is about four things: clarity, differentiation, recognition, and alignment.

Clarity - The work nonprofits do and the problems they solve aren’t simple. Social challenges in particular often have many causes that require programming to engage the issue on multiple fronts. For this reason, it can be difficult for audiences to get a clear sense of what many nonprofits are about without conducting extensive research. Branding helps distill your complex work into an idea audiences can understand and connect with.

Differentiation - Brand differentiation helps audiences make decisions about which organizations they resonate with and support. Additionally, it can help nonprofits identify opportunities for partnership with other organizations dedicated to the same cause, ensuring greater impact among organizations.

Recognition - A strong visual identity helps audiences recognize your brand and attribute its communications, building more meaningful connections over time. A strong identity also lends credibility to your organization, which is helpful for garnering support.

Alignment - One of the hardest things for nonprofits to maintain as they grow is authenticity and alignment. There’s a lot that goes into a brand: your mission and values, who you are, your image, and how multiple audiences perceive you. Strong brands help maintain alignment between these various dimensions both internally and in external communications.

  • Measuring a rebrand’s ROI (return on investment) can be challenging because the benefits are diverse and tend to compound over time. That said, there are many ways to get a basic sense of your rebrand’s effectiveness. The metrics you choose will depend on your organization’s specific goals. Regardless which ones you go with, however, it’s important that you establish benchmarks early (prior to your rebrand) and remain consistent in how you measure them. • We work with nonprofits, educational institutions, social enterprises, and other mission-driven organizations ranging in size and staffing structure. Our clients have revenues ranging from under $1m to over $100m per year. All projects, including brand development services, require a designated point of contact from your organization to review and approve our work.

  • “The only constant in life is change.” Inevitably, no matter how good your branding is, eventually it will no longer reflect your organization as effectively as you want it to. That’s when you know you are due for a refresh. That said, in general, most quality branding efforts remain effective for 7-10 years on average.
